Kenya Tax System Still Punitive To The Poor.

Deputy prime minister who is also at the helm of the finance docket is walking a tight rope as he runs an economy on leaky public coffers attributable to drought, rising inflation, souring fuel prices and weakening shilling, all indicators pointing at a slow down in economic activities and contraction of corporate earnings. The lack of information and understanding by the publi2 with regard to taxation is an impedement to advocy of sound tax regimes crucial to building accountability in management of the country’s revenue.Another major danger in a tax system impacting negatively on the poor at the expense of the rich.Public ignorance on the tax system and how it operates make alot of forks less interested on how their taxes are being used. Its now apparent that sections of the government could be taking advantage of this situation to fleece kenyans of their contribution to the exchaqur.Government is the lord and due to lack of knowledge in how taxes are collected impacts negatively on citizens who cann’t hold the goverment accountable. Failure to have a transparent budgeting process and a budget intergotion of its details leaves room for a scenario where a tax policy framework in which the wealthy do not pay their share of taxation, implying that the poor the shoulder the larger the tax burden;exacerbating the inequality gap in the process. From my tax knowledge, for a tax system to effectively redistribute income, there is need to establish who bears the burden of the tax.In ending my writing i want to plea with the individuals who pay taxes to demand better services from the government.
